Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania Teodor Baconschi pays official visit to Azerbaijan.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania Teodor Baconschi paid an official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan in March 18, 2010. During his visit Romanian Minister held talks with President of the Republic of Azerbaijan H.E. Mr.Ilham Aliyev, Prime Minister Artur Rasizade, Chairman of the Azerbaijani Parliament Oktay Asadov, his Azerbaijani counterpart Elmar Mammadyarov and Minister of Energy and Industry Natig Aliyev.
During his meeting with Head of the State Mr.Ilham Aliyev stressed that Azerbaijan and Romania enjoyed "strong partnership relations and intensive diplomatic ties". He also mentioned that high-level personal relations between the Presidents of two countries played important role in developing the Azerbaijan-Romania ties. President expressed his confidence that the Romanian FM`s visit would contribute to developing the relations between two countries. The visit was considered as an opportunity to discuss the European Union-Azerbaijan cooperation and the situation in the region.
Baconschi conveyed Romanian President Traian Basescu`s greetings to the Head of the State. He stated that the President of Romania was keen to develop relations with Azerbaijan. Baconschi recalled the Azerbaijani President's last visit to Romania, underlining that "existence of personal relations between our presidents is a crucial factor in terms of development of strategic partnership between the two countries".
In his meeting with Minister of Industry and Energy Natig Aliyev parties discussed cooperation in energy field, as well as issues related to Azerbaijani gas export via the Nabucco project and realization of gas transportation project via Azerbaijan-Georgia-Romania route.
During meeting with his Azerbijani counterpart, Mr.Baconschi stated that deepening strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Romania is one of the priorities of his country. Ministers discussed potential and opportunities of expanding bilateral trade turnover, also expressed their common consent to hold next meeting of Intergovernmental Economic Commission. Baconschi also underscored that as an EU member state Romania has always been ready to support Azerbaijan to EU integration.
