PRESIDENT OF AZERBAIJAN ILHAM ALIYEV
ARRIVED TO BUCHAREST TO PARTICIPATE
IN THE NATO SUMMIT


        On April 2, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev arrived Wednesday in the Romanian capital, Bucharest to participate in the NATO summit.

        At the Bucharest international airport, the President of Azerbaijan and first lady Mehriban Aliyeva were welcomed by State Secretary of the Romanian foreign ministry Mihai Gheorghiu and other senior officials.

        From the airport, the Azerbaijani leader headed to his temporary residence.

AND OSCE SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE




        On April 2, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev today received the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs, Ambassadors Bernard Fassier of France, Yury Merzlyakov of Russia, Matthew Bryza of the United States and Personal Envoy of the OSCE Chairman-in-office Andzei Kaspshik in Bucharest.

        In meeting, discussions revolved around settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict.





PRESIDENT ILHAM ALIYEV MEETS HIS
GEORGIAN COUNTERPART IN BUCHAREST

        On April 2, Visiting Romania to take part at the NATO Summit in Bucharest, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev today at his residence in the "Hilton Hotel" met with the President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili.

        In meeting, the conversation revolved around successful development of bilateral relations in political, economic and other fields between the two countries. The Presidents expressed pleasure with the existent level of ties in the framework of regional cooperation.

        The Heads of State noted future potential of bilateral relations between their countries.

        On April 2, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev attended Wednesday the official reception in honor of participants of the NATO Summit arranged on behalf of Romanian Prime-Minister Popesku-Tarichanu in Bucharest.







PRESIDENT ILHAM ALIYEV PARTICIPATES IN
JOINT SESSION ON AFGHANISTAN WITHIN NATO SUMMIT

        On April 3, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev attended in Bucharest a joint session on Afghanistan with participation of NATO Heads of State and Government and non-NATO nations contributing troops to the International Security Assistance Force.

        The session was joined by Afghan President Hamid Karzai, Secretary-General of the UN Ban Ki-Moon, and President of the European Commission Manuel Barroso, as well as representatives of the Japan government and the World Bank.

        The event was opened by Secretary General of NATO Jaap de Hoop Scheffer who spoke of Afghanistan's development over the past seven years, including strengthening security, and large-scale reconstruction work in the country. The NATO chief said the international community will continue efforts towards ensuring a bright future for Afghanistan. The session then continued behind closed doors.


PRESIDENT ILHAM ALIYEV MEETS LATVIAN
COUNTERPART IN BUCHAREST

        On April 3, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met on Thursday Latvian leader Valdis Zatlers in Bucharest.

        Both presidents stressed bilateral relations between the two counties are developing in various fields, including political and economic.

        They said Azerbaijan and Latvia are successfully cooperating within international organizations.

        The two leaders also emphasized their country`s cooperation in energy security and in integrating into Euroatlantic structures.

OF HEADS OF STATE AND GOVERNMENT
OF EURO-ATLANTIC PARTNERSHIP COUNCIL

        On April 3, Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev attended a working lunch of the Heads of State and Government of the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council which was arranged as part of a NATO Summit in the Romanian capital, Bucharest, on Thursday.

        The lunch was opened by Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, Secretary General of NATO, who was in charge of the party.

        President Ilham Aliyev spoke at the event covering Azerbaijan's economic progress, the country`s increasing role in the region and its moves towards integrating into European structures.

        President Ilham Aliyev said Azerbaijan is actively involved in cooperation in the Black and Caspian Sea basins, as well as in providing Europe's energy security.

        On Azerbaijan's conflict with Armenia over Nagorno-Karabakh, President Ilham Aliyev said over million Azerbaijanis became refugees and internally displaced as a result of Armenia's occupying Azerbaijani territories and conducting ethnic cleansing there.

        The Azerbaijani leader stressed the conflict can be solved only in accordance with the principle of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity.


AZERBAIJANI FIRST LADY MEHRIBAN ALIYEVA ATTENDS
MEETING OF SPOUSES OF HEADS OF STATE AND
GOVERNMENT PARTICIPATING IN NATO SUMMIT

        On April 3, Azerbaijan's first lady, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva attended Thursday a tea party at the National Museum of Art in Bucharest with participation of spouses of the Heads of State and Government participating in the NATO Summit.

        During the event, Mehriban Aliyeva had a warm conversation with her US counterpart Laura Bush.

        Following the party, the first ladies viewed the Museum where Mehriban Aliyeva signed the guest book.






        Later the same day, Azerbaijan's first lady visited the Heydar Aliyev Foundation's representation in Romania which was opened last September with the Azerbaijani and Romanian presidents in attendance.

        On April 3, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva attended official reception hosted by President of Romania Traian Basecu at the Hilton Hotel in Bucharest in honor of the Heads of State and Government participating in the NATO Summit.

HEADS OF SEVERAL STATES DURING
NATO SUMMIT IN BUCHAREST

        On April 3, on the sidelines of the NATO Summit in Bucharest, Romania, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met with Presidents George W. Bush of the United States, Vladimir Putin of the Russian Federation, Abdullah Gul of Turkey, NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer.









        The sides exchanged views on bilateral relations and other issues of mutual interest.








PRESIDENT OF AZERBAIJAN
HONORS HEYDAR ALIYEV'S MONUMENT

        President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, being on a visit in Bucharest to take part at the NATO Summit, on April 4 have visited the park named after the nationwide leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev in the Romanian capital.










        Heads of local authority welcomed the Azerbaijani guests.









        President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva laid flowers on monument of the Great Leader erected in the park.










PRESIDENT OF AZERBAIJAN
ENDS HIS VISIT TO ROMANIA

        Visit of the Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev to Romania to take part at the NATO Summit on April 4 completed.

        At the international airport in Bucharest, Head of the Azerbaijan State and First Lady of Azerbaijan were seen off by the high-rank officials of Romania.
