ROMANIAN LEADER TRAIAN BASESCU IN BAKU
President of Romania Traian Basescu has arrived in Baku to attend the second Summit of Guam, the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development.
The Romanian leader was welcomed at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport by Azerbaijan`s Deputy Foreign Minister Vaqif Sadiqov and other senior governmental officials.
PRESIDENT ILHAM ALIYEV MEETS WITH PRESIDENT OF ROMANIA TRAIAN BASESCU
On June 19, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met with his Romanian counterpart Traian Basescu, who arrived in Baku to participate in the 2nd Summit of GUAM.
The two leaders shared the view that Azerbaijan-Romania relations are developing successfully.
President Aliyev said Azerbaijan attaches particular importance to development of bilateral relations with participating countries, adding expansion of cooperation with the European Union is also the focus of attention.
President Basescu pointed to friendly relations between the two countries and peoples. He underlined that Romania is very interested in development of cooperation with Azerbaijan.
GUAM SUMMIT OPENS IN BAKU
The 2nd Summit of GUAM, the organization of Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova for democracy and economic development opened at Gulistan Palace in Baku on Tuesday.
The summit brought together Presidents Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan, Viktor Yuschenko of Ukraine, Lech Kaczynski of Poland, Traian Basescu of Romania, Valdas Adamkus of Lithuania, Mikhail Saakashvili of Georgia as well as Vice-President of Bulgaria Angel Marin and Prime Minister of Moldova Vasile Tarlev.
Also attending the meeting were delegations from USA, Latvia, Estonia and Japan.
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev made an opening speech.
