KARS-AKHALKALAKI-TBILISI-BAKU
RAILWAY PROJECT TO BE IMPLEMENTED

        On 13 January, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey trilateral negotiations in Tbilisi have ended in agreement for implementation of the Kars-Akhalkalaki-Tbilisi-Baku railway project.

        Realization of the agreement will greatly contribute to the close cooperation in the trade-economic relations on South Caucasus, as well as in the entire Eurasian region, the development of regional transport network aiming at stable progress and security, acceleration of socio-economic growth, as well as widening of cooperation on global level.

        The Project, being a big step towards improvement of the transport infrastructure in the frame of restoration of the historical Silk Road, will promote quick development of the Europe-Caucasus-Asia transport corridor on a new level. One of the major elements of East-West energy-transport corridor, the Kars-Akhalkalaki-Tbilisi-Baku railway, defined by international community as a remarkable goal for the region, will promote creation of stable economic growth, stability and welfare.

        The railway, built according to the international standards, will provide secure and timely delivery of passengers and cargo, the rise of freightage volume, large-scale development of transport infrastructure, rise of efficiency of transport links and guarantee reliable way out to international markets.

        Implementation of this historical project, being a next successful step among the achievements of Azerbaijan's foreign policy strategy, along with the mentioned positives, will also promote rise of the export of transit goods through the territory of Azerbaijan, establishment of direct links between Caspian basin and Europe, acceleration of the processes of integration to Europe, development of cooperation in the frame of Europe Neighborhood Policy, diversification of cargo and service transportation, and of course, strengthening of state independence and sovereignty of regional states.
