June 30, 2006 in Bucharest, at "Majestic - Ramada" hotel, the Friendship Association Romania - Azerbaijan has held the Session of its General Assembly. During the session there were elected: the General Secretary - Mr. Pop de Popa, the Chairman - Mr. Dumitru Balan, the Vice-president - Mr. Ruslan Valadov, as well as the new members of the Inspection and Control-Disciplinary commissions.

        During the session there were also discussed changes and additions to the Statute of the Association, the financial state of the Association, the foundation of the position of honorable chairman, the acceptance of 115 new members of the Association, offers for active development of the relationship between Romania and the Republic of Azerbaijan in the field of culture, science and education.

        Furthermore there was taken the decision to open regional representative offices of the Friendship Association in 7 regions of Romania: in Dobrogea (Constanta), in Transylvania (Cluj), in Banat (Timisoara), in Moldova (Iasi), in Maramures (Satu Mare), in Oltenia (Craiova) and in Muntenia (Giurgiu). Based on the Statute of the Association, the Administrative Council confirmed the heads of 4 regional representative offices: Dobrogea, Transylvania, Moldova and Muntenia.

        The Assembly of the Friendship Association has highly appreciate the decision made by the Azerbaijan state to install in Baku a bust of the great Romanian composer and academician George Enescu.

        The members of the Association expressed their pleasure related to the decision of the Romanian Government and, personally, of the mayor of 2-nd sector of Bucharest, Mr. Neculai Ontanu, concerning the renaming of the avenue of "Tei" park to the name of the national leader of Azerbaijan people Heydar Aliyev.

        The participants at the session have expressed their gratitude to the staff of the embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Romania and, personally, to the Ambassador, Mr. Eldar Hasanov, for the rendered help and care during the activity of the Friendship Association, as well as for the development of friendly cooperation relations existing between Romania and the Republic of Azerbaijan in all spheres.
